      <image:title>Eligibility - 3. Dogs must be safe to handle.</image:title>
<image:caption>Any dog in our care needs to be safe to be leashed, moved, or picked up if needed. We may need to administer medication, pick something off their coat, check a paw or examine a body part. We will always use the least stressful method for elderly dogs, but those who are aggressively sensitive to being appropriately handled will not be eligible.</image:caption>

<image:title>Eligibility - Any new dog needing a sleepover for more than 3 nights must do a trial overnight.</image:title>
<image:caption>We are striving to provide a relaxing retreat-like experience for dogs in their golden years. Some dogs, as they age, can also develop new anxieties around unfamiliar places or people. This stress and anxiety can manifest in restlessness, sustained barking/whining, agitation or a flare up of atypical behavior issues. We always want what’s best for the dog, as well as what’s best for the house. Seniors displaying these kinds of stresses would not be a good fit and would likely be happier at home with a dog sitter. My eldest dog, Iggy, is at the age where she NEEDS to be in her familiar home environment. Between her senior dementia and declining physical capacity, another home is actually too stressful for her to adjust to. We will decide on a case by case basis what would be the best choice for each dog.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Eligibility - 2. Dogs must have basic social skills.</image:title>
<image:caption>This is a multi-dog household. We have 5 personal dogs of all sizes: 3 are elderly, 1 is middle-aged, and 1 is an adult with a puppy spirit. All home team dogs are social, well-mannered and very at ease with the constant dog guests in their space. While we keep our guest numbers small, there are always many dogs here so all guests MUST be comfortable with dogs of varying sizes and ages. The multitude of oversized dog beds are meant to be shared, and while there is no pressure to engage or play, all dogs should have the ability to calmly co-exist.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Eligibility - 4. Housetraining</image:title>
<image:caption>We know that many seniors have unreliable bladders at times. Others, particularly small dogs, may have had housebreaking issues for years. Since this is our home and not a facility, we do need some level of bathroom reliability to ensure safety and hygiene for all our guests. All dogs are given easy outside access for most of the day. Dogs with very weak or unreliable systems may need to wear a diaper or belly band.</image:caption>

<image:title>Testimonials - Elijah has been in Moritz’s, our beloved dog’s life for over 10 years now. He has been invaluable! There is a reason why we call him the “dog whisperer”. His way of dealing with dogs is just amazing. There is his obvious love for dogs which does not mean he lets them do whatever they want. The dogs love and respect him. That is why, over the years, we never hired anyone else when going on vacation than Elijah. Moritz loves to stay with him. We are so grateful for Elijah, in particular now that Moritz has entered the senior age. Moritz has certain issues that not only request giving meds but also monitoring him and, if needed, get him medical care. We are completely confident that Elijah will do what’s best for our dog and we trust him 100%. We cannot imagine a better dog caring person than Elijah!</image:title>

<image:title>Testimonials - Elijah has been such a wonderful part of the family for our canine family member - Bubbles. He has helped her with training and has been her family away from home as he has taken her in as a boarder from time to time. When she stays with Elijah, we know that she gets lots of love, lots of exercise, play time, and he reinforces her training and good manners. Staying with Elijah is always our first choice when we need to travel without Bubbles.</image:title>

<image:title>Testimonials - We have boarded our dogs with Elijah for over 10 years. He cares for our dogs as if they were his own, with individual attention and care. Our only dog currently is a senior dog, Nya, who has boarded with Elijah many times from anywhere from a few days to over a week. She is always happy to be dropped off and is clearly very comfortable in his home and with the other dogs that are being boarded. Nya is quite skittish with people and other dogs and needs a lot of time and space to warm up and feel comfortable. Elijah not only recognized this early on but helped us to appreciate her qualities and support her to feel less nervous in situations with new dogs and new people. When Nya boards with Elijah and he has people over, she can stay in a separate room until she is ready to come out and meet people on her terms. This allows her to feel safe and calm. Elijah also establishes boundaries so there are no territorial issues around food and the dogs know when and where they can relax and play. Finally, Elijah provides Nya with plenty of exercise and also sends us some photos while we are away. In summary, Elijah provides a peace of mind when we are away because we know how much he cares for our pups.</image:title>

      <image:title>About Us - Elijah He/Him</image:title>
<image:caption>I’ve been working professionally with dogs for the past 20 years. I started in the shelter system in Oregon, moving to the Bay Area and working at a large dog daycare before launching out on my own. For the past 15 years I’ve been running The Working Walk, a full service company for dogs of all types, particularly geared towards dogs who need behavior help. The Working Walk specializes in structured pack walks, in-home boarding and private training. Over the years I’ve cultivated a huge soft spot for senior dogs. While working in the shelter, it was particularly tough to see incredible older dogs be passed over time and time again, and it became a special mission of mine to showcase these dogs as much as possible.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About Us</image:title>
<image:caption>About 15 years ago I adopted my first senior dog, Buddy, a 14 year old Newfoundland mix whose owner passed away. Caring for Buddy for the final few years of his life ignited a deep passion for seniors, in addition to teaching me so much about the particular (and shifting) needs of dogs in their golden years. Since Buddy passed away, I’ve adopted 7 senior dogs, in addition to caring for my other dogs as they have aged. When I moved to the Bay Area, I was overjoyed to discover Muttville, a rescue just for senior pups! Six of my seniors were adopted through them, and opening my home as a Muttville foster parent is always a meaningful experience, be it a few days or a few weeks, or even forever (as my 7th personal dog can attest!). I’ve now been actively fostering for Muttville for over a decade. While it’s thrilling to see so many wonderful seniors find new homes through Muttville’s tireless work, senior-specific services beyond adoption are few and far between; so I wanted to change that.</image:caption>
